I’m wondering…, I’m curious to know…etc

Questions can sometimes seem intrusive, so rapport is essential. ‘Softeners’ can help make the questions seem smoother and less abrupt. I’m wondering what it is that you want to achieve? I’m curious to know how you know that? I’d like to ask you what’s been frustrating you? I wonder if you can tell me how the market is causing your business challenges?

Don’t feed the illusion – instead, know that all is well. Fear is an illusion – if you fight it, you feed it. Don’t feed the illusion.

Stop for a moment and consider the fact that all the worries you had in the past didn’t prevent you from getting to where you are today. And in this moment, all is well. You are breathing, reading, aware. There was nothing to fear – you only thought there was.

In fact, people are only ever afraid of feelings. Fear is a feeling based on an illusion – the idea that all is not well. People are afraid of two things; they’ll lose what they’ve got, or they wont get what they want. But when you realise that you can’t lose anything (because people aren’t afraid of losing things, but of how they’d feel if they lost it) and you can have whatever you want (because people don’t want things so much as the feelings they give them), then you will also realise that there’s nothing to fear.

Fear is an illusion – if you fight it, you feed it. Don’t feed the illusion – instead, know that all is well.

I say I’m not going to tell you it, so you can take it easy. Then, while you’re taking it easy, I tell you. I’m not going to tell you to give me a ridiculously low price on this, because I don’t want to put you in a difficult position. I’m not going to tell you to think of all the money you’ll save if you follow our advice. I’m not going to tell you to play with these cards every day, because it’s not my place to do that. So I’m not. Really!

Sooner or later, _____.

Sooner or later. Does that just about cover it? Sooner or later pretty much everything happens, one way or another. Sooner or later, your company will have to deal with this issue. Sooner or later, you’ll realise that now is the perfect time to take advantage of this offer. Sooner or later, you’ll really start to notice these patterns emerging in your language.

Maybe you haven’t ____ yet.

Maybe you have and maybe you haven’t. The negation is great for people whose natural urge is to resist, and if you have, well that’s just my mistake. And the yet presumes it will happen in the future. Maybe you haven’t opened to the unlimited possibilities within you yet. Maybe you haven’t thought of all the ways you can enjoy becoming slim and healthy yet. Maybe you haven’t imagined all the ways you can use these patterns yet you can begin to now.

How do you stop yourself?

It takes a lot of energy for a person to keep a problem in place. This question subtly presupposes that they are the one with the power. “I can’t seem to get organised.” How do you stop yourself? People will often identify changes they can make immediately to stop stopping themselves! “No matter what I do, I don’t seem to be able to lose weight.” How do you stop yourself from losing weight? When the person starts to consider this question, they begin to claim back the power they’ve used to hold the problem in place.

You can have whatever you want

You can have whatever you want. How do I know? Because people don’t want things so much as the feelings the things will give them. And you already have those.

The great thing is, the more you practice feeling the feelings, the more the things and experiences you desire will be attracted towards you (as if to a magnet).

Feel how you’ll feel when you’ve got what you want, and you’ll realise you can have whatever you want.

Isn’t it nice to know you can integrate these learnings at the speed that’s best for you? It’s so easy to agree with that you just want to nod. Isn’t it nice to know your unconscious has the answers to all the questions you’ll ever ask? Isn’t it nice to know you have all the resources you need already within you?

Influence
When people like yourself, [name], _____, they _____.

We’re not saying who, exactly, just that they’re people like yourself. And the fact that they’re like you means you’re more likely to trust their opinion. And there’s a great opportunity to get an embedded command in just after the name. When people like yourself, Peter, come on this training course, they experience a profound increase in their abilities. When people like yourself, Jenny, come and work for our company, they feel right at home. When people like yourself, Neville, tell everyone how great these cards are, they feel a deep sense of satisfaction. Really!

Happiness Tip 28 – You can’t lose anything

You can’t lose anything. This is great news!

People are afraid of two things; that they’ll lose what they’ve got, and that they won’t get what they want. But people aren’t really afraid of losing things, but of how they would feel if it happened. The great news is that feelings don’t mean anything, so it’s perfectly safe to feel them.

I mean it – it’s perfectly safe! When you actually experience the feeling of how you’d feel if you lost what you don’t want to lose, you’ll realise this is absolutely true. Hooray! You can’t lose anything.

Which / what / who specifically?

People often use words which are not specific about who or what they mean. “They always take advantage.” Who specifically takes advantage? “Nobody listens to the things I say.” Who specifically doesn’t listen to which things you say? This question helps the listener get a better understanding of who and what is involved in a situation, and gets the speaker more in touch with reality. “I have trouble reaching goals.” Which goals specifically?

Coaching
What would [getting what you want] do for you?

People are often clear about a goal, but not about what achieving that goal would give them or do for them. You can help bring it into consciousness. “I want to be rich.” What would being rich do for you? “I want to start my own business.” What would starting your own business do for you? You can repeat the question to reveal deeper values. “I want a new house.” What would having a new house do for you? “Give me my own space.” And what would having your own space do for you? “I’d have freedom.” What will learning these questions do for you?  

Happiness
Everything is perfect in this moment

Of course, this can’t really be true, can it? But you can, if you choose, believe that all is well. That doesn’t mean that things can’t be changed, improved, altered or in some way bettered. It merely means that right now, in this moment, things are the way they are, and it’s all good.

After all, what the thinker thinks, the prover proves. If a person goes around believing that everything’s perfect in this moment, they can relax, and focus on how they’d like to make things even better.

“Better than perfect?” I hear you ask. Well, part of what makes this moment perfect is that you are in it, and that includes all your creative genius (I know you may not think you’re creative, but remember, you are more than you think you are). Follow your intuitive impulses – if you want something to be different, maybe that’s a sign that you’re the one to do it. And you can do it with a joyful energy when you remember everything’s perfect in this moment.

Not exactly, but it’s going to happen. I don’t know exactly how you’re going to go into a trance. I don’t know exactly how you’ll find these learnings helping you the most. I don’t know exactly how you’re going to use these patterns. That’s for you to find out.

It’s easy to _____ when _____, isn’t it?

Isn’t it nice to know that things can be easy, under certain conditions. It’s easy to make a quick decision when you see just what you’re looking for, isn’t it? It’s easy to forget about going anywhere else when you’re looking at a suit as beautiful as this, isn’t it? It’s easy to do something spontaneous when the conditions are perfect for it, isn’t it?

I don’t know whether ____.

I don’t know, but you’ll know, once you’ve considered the  possibilities. I don’t know whether you’ll start exercising today. I don’t know whether you can feel a tingling sensation in your fingers. I don’t know whether you’ve decided just how deeply you’re going to embed these patterns in your language.
Influence
_____, I said to myself, “_____”.

One of the best people to quote is yourself, because it involves telling a mini-story. Stories get people to ‘take their armour off’, and that’s when your messages can go in most easily. I was once in a situation like yours, and I said to myself, “Just make a decision why don’t you!”, and then everything started to run smoothly. When I first got into this business, I said to myself “You just need to focus on what you want, and everything else will fall into place”, and funnily enough, it did. When I first learned about the langauge of influence, I said to myself, “Use these patterns every day and you’ll be superb in no time”.

You don’t need anything

I know this may come as a shock, but think about it. People want feelings, and they already have them (remember, people don’t want things so much as the feelings they think the things will give them). When you feel you need something, or have to do something, it is a compulsion; there is no choice. And as choice goes, so goes the joy of living.

But you can get the choice back by changing the language – instead of “I need X” you can say “I choose X because I want Y”. Once you realise that everything’s a personal choice, then you can party! Once you truly realise this, you’ll also realise that you don’t actually need anything.

The ironic thing is that once you realise that you don’t need anything, you relax, and detach from outcome, and discover that you’re free to have whatever you like. Cool huh?!? What happens when you consider the possibility that you don’t need anything?

If there was a miracle tonight…how would you know?

This is really powerful when someone doesn’t know what they want, or is having trouble imagining a problem being solved. If there was a miracle tonight, and when you woke up tomorrow, everything [in this area of your life/work/business] was exactly as you’d like it to be, how would you know a miracle had occurred? What would you see, hear, feel and believe that would let you know it had happened? Speak slowly and leave pauses to allow the person’s imagination free reign. The miracle frees the mind to go beyond its previously held limitations. This can be…miraculous!

Coahing What stops you? When you hear the words “I can’t”, there may be a limiting belief lurking nearby. You can discover the obstacle by asking “What stops you?” “I can’t lose weight.” What stops you? “I can’t remember people’s names.” What stops you? Before they answer, they will demonstrate how they stop themselves, with eye movements, gestures etc. If you’re watching and listening, you’ll see them do it. “I can’t see people’s eye movements.” What stops you? And what would happen if you could? Hypnosis In the days and weeks ahead ____. I’m not saying when, exactly, and it sounds so plausible. In the days and weeks ahead, you will begin to find these learnings integrating at every level in your neurology. In the days and weeks ahead, you may begin to notice certain indications that the changes you desire are taking place. In the days and weeks ahead, the real value of having practice these patterns diligently will begin to become apparent. (Yes, I know it should say practiced, but when you say it smoothly, the conscious mind doesn’t even notice). Influence _____ means _____. People love to know the meaning of things, which means that you can create that meaning for them. This is a great way to set the frame at the start of an influence situation. The very fact that we’re having this meeting means that we can find the right way to work together. You’ve made the time to come into my shop today, which means that we can definitely find the right holiday for you. You’re reading this explanation, which means that you have a commitment to learning, which means you can achieve whatever you set your mind to! : )) People are afraid of some feelings, but there’s nothing to fear. Just like people don’t want things and experiences so much as the feelings they will give them, people aren’t afraid of things so much as of the feelings they will give them. Someone says they’re afraid of losing their job, but they’re not; they’re afraid of how they would feel if that happened. Some people spend their whole lives running away from a particular feeling. But what you focus on increases, so the more they run away, the more it’s there. Of course, feelings don’t mean anything, they’re just sensations in your body. As soon as you feel the feelings you’ve been running from, you’re free to move on and experience something else. People are afraid of some feelings, but there’s nothing to fear.
